1/25th Scale Diecast blank sprint car

Postby papossefan » Mon Sep 08, 2008 6:05 pm

I found out yesterday that R&R, who bought out the old GMP sprint car molds has issued a 1/25 scale blank sprint car diecast. Mine has a white body with black chassis, but heard that there's a black body version. Less expensive than buying a new completed version then stripping it to repaint. Mine was just under $40. Only one hood, the old J&J hood that sits inside the downtubes. Actually that hood has only been seen on two versions, the # 77 Rahmer and #7TW Gold Eagle car. The motor has all of the new additions, oil tank, filter and wires. Wasn't someone on the board asking for them to sell an undecorated sprint car in 1/25th? This is not the Kit version like GMP used to sell in 1/18th scale, but an assembled car.

I talked with r&r the other day. They will be producing blanks in both scales as they produce regular releases. So that is why some blanks have different combos than others. They said they had no immediate plans to release any red framed blanks in either scale. Too bad, I have some new kauffman sheets that would go great on them.

Mostly I'm somewhat opposed to diecast taking over our hobby, but this does sound interesting - especially if they can be disassembled and detailed, painted and decaled how I like.

I hear what you're saying, Kapam about being able to build them as you want to. I've got a somewhat different view about diecast sprint cars. I've been collecting them for more than 10 years and when I started, there was nothing available from the plastic world other than tired old molds of very dated sprint car models. The only alternative decals were from Fred Cady so there wasn't much to choose from and certainly nothing available that matched the cars that we saw at the track. The diecast cars opened a whole new avenue for getting in scale what was current. The introduction of Clay and our host Joe's decals have thoroughly changed the landscape of scale sprint car modeling. However I continue to like and collect diecasts and have used some of the new decals to customize some old diecasts. Let's face it, sometimes you just need a break from building every sprint model as a super-detailed piece. The new blank pieces gives you that freedom. I've never considered it an either-or proposition. Just my $.02.

Yes I do see your point.
If I could afford the diecast sprints I too would probably find them irresistable!
I was a big fan of the Slixx sprint car decals and I thought we'd see a lot more options coming from Slixx. However they stopped releasing new sprint car sheets sometime back - I'm guessing it was the licencing issues that were the problem - same as the NASCAR decals.
That's why I'm so grateful for the Sprint Graphix!! :)
